Graduate Admissions Coordinator Indiana University Bloomington Bloomington, Indiana, United States
At Indiana University Bloomington, we have an LGBTQ+ Staff and Faculty council which focuses on bringing queer staff and faculty together to build community between those that are often disenfranchised or who sometime lack community that is a safe space to be authentically and fully themselves. This session will cover the process the Executive Board went through to begin an LGBTQ+ group on Indiana University Bloomington's campus specifically for the Staff and Faculty to have resources, comradery, and a safe space to share similar experiences. This session will also involve a Q&A session with myself, the Staff Co-Chair of the IUB LGBTQ+ Staff and Faculty Council, on how the Council operates in a way that is both productive and within the bounds of living in a state such as Indiana.
Learning Objectives:
To create a conversation surrounding the environment that LGBTQ+ staff and faculty face on college campuses
Folks will have a rough outline for how to approach the key decision makers for the university to encourage funding for a community building group for LGBTQ+ Staff and Faculty (Indiana University Bloomington's is funded through the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at IUB)
Encourages open conversation on how to best engage with queer Staff and Faculty as colleagues and as a community
