Program Manager of Student Services University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences Louisville, Kentucky, United States
This presentation examines how academic institutions can safeguard the physical, mental, and financial well-being of students throughout their educational journey, from recruitment to graduation. Graduate students face distinct challenges compared to undergraduates due to a broader age range and varied life circumstances, such as balancing family commitments or re-entering academia after time in the workforce. International graduate students also encounter additional hurdles, such as navigating visa regulations and adjusting to cultural differences, which can affect their academic and personal well-being. With rising concerns about student mental health, financial insecurity, and campus safety, it is essential to create robust support systems to prevent students from "slipping through the cracks." This session will focus on strategies we developed for providing holistic support through student services, identifying early warning signs of distress, and fostering cross-departmental collaboration to ensure students' success.
