Janet Kim, PhD. is the Recruitment Specialist in the College of Education at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Her research focus is recruiting and supporting underrepresented populations into teacher education programs and bridging the fields of education, marketing, and enrollment management as a strategy for addressing teacher shortages. Her work includes distance and online recruitment methods and programs to meet
the unique needs of rural and remote populations across the state of Hawaiʻi. As a previous elementary special education teacher who became the first full-time recruitment specialist in the College of Education, Mrs. Kim advises students using first-hand experiences as a teacher in
combination with marketing and enrollment management practices to support prospective students into pursuing teacher preparation programs. She received her PhD in Education with a specialization in Exceptionalities at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and was awarded the
2020 NAGAP Graduate Education Research Grant for her dissertation proposal, Understanding the Special Education Teacher Pipeline.
