Retaining staff is a huge challenge for many graduate enrollment teams. Increasingly, graduate enrollment professionals are expected to deliver more with less, leading to burnout and stress. A recent NAGAP/EAB white paper revealed that 49% of GEM professionals were highly stressed and 46% were considering leaving their roles. Emotional intelligence (EQ) is key to both increased satisfaction and reduced stress within our professional lives, and fortunately, EQ can be strengthened with the right resources and focus. Managers who increase their own emotional intelligence, while also using EQ to shape and support their teams, can stem the loss of valued staff.
This session will expose participants to emotional intelligence principles from TalentSmartEQ’s Certified Trainer program which has been used to educate Purdue Engineering staff and students on EQ and its essential role in creating an effective workplace. This session will introduce you to the four components of EQ, provide strategies to assess and build your EQ, and offer insights for using EQ for effective relationship management in the workplace. In addition to increasing satisfaction and reducing stress at work, the strategies gained will be equally beneficial in enriching our personal lives and relationships.
