Les Sessoms, a Black man with Ojibwe Chippewa heritage from Michigan, grew up in Seattle, WA. He uses he/him pronouns and is a seasoned student services professional with extensive experience in recruitment and retention program development.
A first-generation college graduate, Les earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Washington in 1989 and later a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University. He began his career in higher education in 1990 at Skidmore College, where he developed recruitment and retention initiatives for diverse college-bound youth. In 1999, he transitioned to IT recruiting, gaining expertise in technical hiring and human resources.
Les returned to higher education in 2004 as a Graduate Advisor for UW Tacoma’s M.S. in Computing Software Systems program. He later served as a career navigator and recruiter at Clover Park Technical College, continuing his commitment to student success and career development. Currently, he is serving as a Recruitment & Retention Specialist for Graduate Programs at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington.
