Valerie O. Carmichael, Ph.D. is the Director of Graduate Admission and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the department of Educational Leadership at Miami University. Valerie has worked in graduate enrollment management for more than twenty years. Her experiences including recruitment, admission, student success, policy, and enrollment.
Dr. Carmichael has also been involved in several diversity initiatives, including an invitation to participate on the President’s DEI Taskforce and Implementation team. She was a co-leader for a university and community grassroots team that partnered with the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, AL. This project culminated with the erection of an historic marker detailing the lynching’s that occurred in Oxford Ohio in the late 1800’s. She was recently presented with the Inclusive Excellence Award by the President, Institutional Diversity and Athletics.
Prior to her role at Miami University, she led graduate admission for the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, University of Cincinnati. Her research interests include access to graduate education and diverse student success. Dr. Carmichael earned her Master’s and Doctorate from Miami University in Student Affairs in Higher Education and her undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati.
